TEMPLETON ALBERT 4 PARTICK WEST 2 ( LEAGUE CUP ) 18TH AUGUST 2007.
Templeton beat a very good Partick West side in their first game this season. West were promoted from the 2nd division this year. Templeton have a almost new team with players leaving for other clubs with a promise of better things, time will tell. Temps went ahead after a minute by the penalty spot and Anderson converted. Shifty scored the 2nd within 10 minutes and Dearie earned man of the match with 2 goals. The main hero was John Craig in goals who was outstanding and saved Temps from other goals. A good victory for the new team against a good side. Man of the match was John Craig the goalie, well done John.
RENFREW THISTLE 0 TEMPLETON ALBERT 1 ( LEAGUE CUP ) 21ST AUGUST 2007.
Templeton beat a strong Renfrew team who pushed them close last year in the cups. Temps single goal was enough to seal this victory in a well played and close game. Dearie scored this solo effort half way through the 2nd half with a superb finish. Templeton now play Crosslands on Saturday to make the quarters. Man of the match was Eddie Dearie.
TEMPLETON ALBERT 7 CROSSLANDS 0 ( LEAGUE CUP ) 25TH AUGUST 2007.
Templeton strolled through to the quarters against a very young Crosslands team. Temps had all the play and in a one sided game the goals were shared by different players. The first half was entertaining as the teams settled in but with such a wealth of goals the 2nf half was poor. Templeton now go through to the final stages of the competition. Man of the match was Phil McCabe.
TEMPLETON ALBERT 1 FERNIEGAIR 0 ( LEAGUE ) 29TH AUGUST 2007.
Templeton played their 1st game of the league season at home to new team Ferniegair.Templeton started well controlling the game from midfield but finding it hard to break down a well organised Gair defence. If the Gair keeper was not in such good form the end result could have been very different as he saved them on various occassion's. Temps were working well with Dearie causing problems and Ali running the midfield with Franni and Algie and Phil all in control. A first half shot from Mulligan was headed in by the away defender to give Temps the lead which they deserved. In the 2nd half Temps could have run amock but in the end were lucky to escape with the points as John the goalie saved as in the last seconds of play. A good win for Temps in their first game as the players still gel with each other following the major changes in staff. A good result and a platform to build on for the future season considering the 13 players who have left. Well done Templeton.Man of the match was Eddie Dearie.
OPM 1 TEMPLETON ALBERT 2 ( LEAGUE ) 1ST SEPTEMBER 2007.
Templeton started this game with a bare team due to injuries. Park had a very good young team who pushed Temps last year and looked to do the same again from the start. Templeton pushed hard and controlled the game until 25 minutes in when Dearie had to go off with an injury this was followed by a goal in the first attack from Park 1-0 to the home team after some bad defending. Temps pushed forward and were unlucky on a few occassions. Before half time Taylor walked through the defence and passed for Algie to slot home a deserved equaliser. In the 2nd half it more of the same to start with Park having more control and pushing Temps, a break with a high ball found Taylor who was lucky in his tackle to lay the ball on for Shifty who hit a 20 yard shot passed the goalie. Park felt they should have had a free kick but the Ref on the day was equally bad for both teams. For the last 30 minutes it was all Park pushing Temps in defence. Rarely was the goalie called to save which showed the solid defence Templetons have built. A claim for a penalty was waved away and the Park player booked for diving but apart from that Park will feel at least a draw would have been a fair result after Algie cleared from the line in the fianl minutes which hit the bar and went over for a corner. Solid play by Templeton who area stuffy team and hard to beat but a totally different group compared to last years squad.Man of the match was J who was solid throughout.
TEMPLETON ALBERT 5 HAMILTON 0 ( LEAGUE ) 8TH SEPTEMBER 2007.
Templeton in a top of the table clash with new team Hamilton looked like a close game but when the game arrived it was all over in 30 minutes. Temps started very well and played excellent football with Blair, Rushford and Franny controlling the midfield and with Dearie injured young Shifty ran the show from the front. There were a few great saves from Craig in goal which showed that Hamilton were a team to be reckoned with but overall the pace of the game was controlled by Temps. First on the cards was Shifty with a great effort followed by Blair from a cut back. Before Hamilton could recover then Shifty scored with a glancing header from a corner. Hamilton had 2 good chances to level but missed badly with Craig in goal solid. Reilly and Mulligan with the returning Muir were holding the defence as J had to retire due to a sprain with McCarter replacing him in central defence. A 25 yard shot from Blair finished off the half for Temps with Templeton now in control. In the 2nd half Hamilton came more into the game and looked more like the team at the top of the table but still Shifty caused problems. Taylor in the front line was also using his experience to assist in causing problems and with Sneddon and Malone replacing Muir and Taylor late on the game was all but over. Rushford added a 5th from a rebound to seal the victory which now has Templeton at the top of the league at this point. Excellent games by Shifty, Taylor and McCarter well supported by Blair, McCarter and Muir. Templeton now play Ferniegair next week at home to continue their good start to the season. Man of the match was Shifty with some excellent work rate and individual skills.
FERNIEGAIR 2 TEMPLETON ALBERT 2 ( LEAGUE ) 11TH SEPTEMBER 2007.
Templeton 2nd game against a very good Ferniegair team who were unlucky to beaten in the last game came as injury hit the defence. With a bad game from the Ref who everybody agreed got a few of his vital decisions wrong this game went against Temps who looked to continue their recent form. Goals from Reilly with a 25 yard screamer and Ali Rushford the game looked dead until the Refs decisions on knocking off a perfectly good goal and awarding a soft penalty. Point dropped from a game that should have been won but hopefully these decisions will level themselves out over the season.. Man of the match Brian Blair.
BEARSDEN 1 V TEMPLETON ALBERT 6 ( SCOTTISH CUP 2ND ROUND ) 29TH SEPTEMBER 2007.
Templeton came up against a very organised Bearsden team in this 2nd round of the Scottish cup. Right from the start Temps were first to the ball and challenged in every tackle not allowing the opposition to rest. It was an even game in the first 20 minute spell until a great ball let Shifty through on goals past the defence, a shot was deflected to Anderson who slotted home the first goal of the afternoon. Following on from that a great individual goal from Shifty himself sealed a good display from Temps. Franny, Kevin, Blair and Reilly with McCabe all solid in defence. Rushford was solid and closing down any forward movement from Bearsden with Mulligan sweeping at the back. With Dearie out on long term injury Phil Blair came in to support and was outstanding with Shifty. Bearsden were finding it hard against a very strong performance from Temps and with Shifty adding a 2nd goal the 2nd half continued as the first, with Temps playing and closing the Bearsden team down before any play was established. Anderson scored a 2nd but not before the tie was finished with a sweet volley from Franny from outside the box. Subs made were J and Tam both back from injury and Sneddon to complete a good afternoon a great gaol from J with a single goal from Bearsden to break their duck. Special mention for Chuckie in goal who in the 2nd half had 3 terrific saves at point blank, great to have him back also. Man of the match is hard due to the fact that there were no passengers on a day that Templeton were good to watch, but edging this was Shifty, for a young player is superb. This team as we say has lost a lot of good players from last year but the new team has no stars and are all workers, a very hard team to beat. Let the new team speak for itself!!
TEMPLETON ALBERT 4 V BANNERMAN 2 ( LEAGUE ) 6TH OCTOBER 2007
Templeton returned to league duty against a good Bannerman side who also have started well in the league. Within 3 minutes Temps were a goal down after failing to clear from a cross. Templeton seemed slack in all departments as the game progressed but in due course started to dictate play through midfield with Andrew, Rushford and Murray all closing the opposition down well. A good move from Templeton saw a shot rebound to Heggie who slotted it home for the equaliser. Bannerman once agin pressed and at this point the play was in both ends, once again slack defending allowed Bannerman to take the lead. Within minutes Heggie was through again this time a perfect football goal with good play between Anderson, Taylor with Heggie scoring again to level the score at 2-2. As the first half came to close a couple of penalty claims were ignored by the Ref where the forwards were through on goal, as Heggie burst through he was caught again inside the box, this time the Ref gave a penalty. Anderson hit the ball into the net to make the half time score 3-2. In the second half the defence in Reilly,McCabe, Mulligan and Blair tighten up and with Rushford playing well in the middle Templeton slowly controlled the pace of the game. A great passing move from McCabe to Anderson saw a cross to Taylor who hit the ball towards goals but the goalie saved on the line. From a corner the ball was played outside to Rushford who hit a 25 yard shot bang into the net, a great strike, game over. In the end a very hard game between two tough teams with Templeton on the day the better team and a Ref who was equally ineffective for both teams. Man of the Match Ally Rushford but young Craig biting at his heels again. Templetons' play Renfrew Thistle away next week in the league
RENFREW THISTLE 1 V TEMPLETON ALBERT 2 ( LEAGUE ) 13TH OCTOBER 2007
Templeton once again came up against Renfrew in the league. A unusually lowly position for the home team was quickly forgotten as they jumped into the lead after a bad defensive mistake by Templeton's defence. A long hit ball from the goalkeeper went right over and was hit home by the Renfrew forward within minutes. This set the course for the first half with long hit clearances and long hit football. The only exception was a great move from Gallagher on the right with a sweet cross to be met by Reilly with a first time shot just inside the box to level the score, a great hit. After a forgettable first half the football got better with Murray and Rushford along with Reilly and McCabe all starting to control the game a bit better. Heggie was always causing problems but was well controlled by the home defence. Blair and Mulligan fought for everything but both teams seemed to cancel each others football as the game progressed. Renfrew were fighting for everything and the game was a tough session, just as well the teams know each other well enough as the Ref was a simple bystander who caused problems with his needless direction. With a draw looking like a possible Gallagher once again weaved his magic and sent a cross to the back post for Murray to meet and put Temps into a slender lead. Renfrew never stopped the pressure but few efforts on a tough day were created. Templeton were winners on the day with help from some good 2nd half goalkeeping from Big John in goals and some great defensive work from the team. Man of the match was Brian Blair with J McCabe and Phil pushing him with Mulligan. Next week Templeton are at home to Loudon from Ayr League in the West Cup.
TEMPLETON ALBERT 3 v LOUDEN AMS 0 ( West Cup ) 20TH OCTOBER 2007
Templeton played their first game against Louden from the Ayr league in the West of Scotland cup. Louden were a very fast and active team for the 90 minutes whereby Templeton never got into 2nd gear, the scoreline flatters Templeton as they never settled into any passing game but Loudens ineffectiveness to score allowed Templeton to win the draw. In the first half Lennox in goal had a few good saves as the Temps defence tried to settle, with changes again in the team due to missing or injured players the back four of Reilly, McCabe, Phil Blair and Mulligan were stretched. The midfield tried hard to contain Louden but Murray, Rushford and Brian Blair were finding it hard. After a forgettable first half Heggie and Taylor with Anderson started to pick holes in the defence and from a goalline cross Taylor put Templeton ahead after 65 minutes. This settled Temps who then were awarded a penalty after other various claims had been declined. Anderson slotted the ball home, game over. Louden still pushed and with the team moving forward this allowed space at the back for Taylor to bring the ball down on the wing, two touches and hit a volley from fully 30 yards, what a cracker!! The same player had the chance of a hat trick on the line again but hit a "Van Vossen". Templeton were worthy winners but did not find it easy against a very active Louden team. Man of the match was JP McCabe. Templeton play Rolls Royce next week in the Challenge cup away.
ROLLS ROYCE 3 V TEMPLETON ALBERT 0 ( Challenge Cup ) 27TH OCTOBER 2007
Templeton kept their worst game of the season for the Challenge cup game and crashed 3-0 against a very good Rolls Royce team. Right from the start Temps were unsettled and on a day that it was hard to find a decent performance. Royce were a excellent young team who were well ready for the game and beat Templetons to every ball. The 1st goal for RR was a kick from the goalkeeper right through the defence without any Temps player challenging. This was followed by a 2nd when the Temps defence headed the ball onto a RR forwad to score easily. After this the defence was changed but the damage was done. In the 2nd half Templeton pushed for a goal and had most of the play but the Royce defence was solid. As time slipped by and Temps pushed even more this allowed the 3rd goal from a long clearance to finish the game. On a day there was no class Templeton were well beaten. Man of the match was Franny Murray, and next week is an away Scottish tie against Tay Thistle, the management have a lot to do before next week.
TAY THISTLE 0 V TEMPLETON ALBERT 10 ( Scottish Cup ) 3RD NOVEMBER 2007
Templeton arrived in Perth for the Scottish cup tie looking to improve on last weeks performance. With a large squad to pick from the Temps went in front within 2 minutes through Heggie, his first of the afternoon. A solid team seemed to blank Tay from any football and within15 minutes Anderson slotted home to ease Temps in front even further. Lennox on goal had little to do and for the next spell the teams seemed to even out the play with little chances being made for either team. On the 30 minute mark a great pass through to Murray allowed him to hit a first time volley from 25 yards to scream into the top corner, what a goal! As half time approached Rushford fought and won a ball in midfield and hit a screamer from 30 yards, another cracker and game over. The 2nd half approached and with Reilly, McCabe and Mulligan working hard alongside Blair and McCabe in midfield, a 5th goal from Blair with some sweet passing football was side footed into the net and then added to with the first from Taylor, both Taylor and Heggie were working very hard to pressure the home defence. Heggie added another before McCabe added to the tally with a cheeky hit shot inside the post. Subs were added in Charters, Gallagher and Hardy. This added to the already polished show and with Taylor and Heggie both scoring to make the end result 10-0. Heggie was man of the match with a hat trick and a great show but to be honest this was a solid show more like the Templetons we expect. Next week Templeton are away to Giffnock in the league.
GIFFNOCK NORTH 0 V TEMPLETON ALBERT 5 ( League ) 10TH NOVEMBER 2007
Templeton started on a windy wet day looking to get back to the top of the league with a win over Giffnock. With the wind and slope against them Temps done well in the early stages as Giffnock pressured Temps with long balls and 7 across the middle. Within this time Lennox in goal has 2 great saves to keep Temps in the game but as the half wore on Temps settled with Taylor and Heggie causing problems with Rushford and Murray and Blair controlling the middle. On the 30 minute mark a clearance from Brian Blair found Taylor who clipped the ball passed the Giffnock defender for to cross from the wing and Heggie to slot home, what a goal, 4 touches and 1-0 to Temps. As the teams turned round for the 2nd half a goal from Anderson sealed the victory. Giffnock tried to push Temps, but unlike the first half, the wind was against them. Mulligan, McCabe and Reilly with J McCabe were all dominant in defence while Heggie continued his good form. A cross from the left found Heggie in front of goal for his 2nd followed quickly by Taylor with a sublime clip past the goalkeeper to make it 4. With subs replaced it only took a matter of minutes for Kerr to make it 5 in front of goal his first for the club. Man of the match on a day that Taylor, McCabe and Reilly all played well, was Brian Blair. Next week Templeton play Oban Saints at home in the West Cup with hopefully an early kick off.
TEMPLETON ALBERT 2 V OBAN SAINTS 0 ( WEST CUP ) 17TH NOVEMBER 2007 Oban match Report
Templeton came up against a very good Oban Saints team who last year has went to the final stages of this competition. In a good game of football both teams played the ball about well and with both midfields solid it was down to Heggie and Anderson to finish the game in Templetons favour. In defence again it was marshalled by Mulligan and Blair with Taylor and Heggie causing problems in front. Templeton now play Hurlford Thistle from the Ayrshire league in the 4th round on the 1st December at home. Another good team but this Templeton team are a competitive squad following the rebuild from last years.
HAMILTON 0 V TEMPLETON ALBERT 4 ( LEAGUE ) 24TH NOVEMBER 2007
Templeton returned to league action against Hamilton who along with Temps have started well. With changes being made again due to missing players Temps new players fitted in from the start. Within 5 minutes Heggie had finished a good move from Anderson to put Templeton into a quick lead. Hamilton were making it tough as the consistent fouling lead to soft booking aplenty, this made the job harder for the Ref when he needed to be correct as the game progressed. Wind assisted and on a very cold day Temps continued to play the better football against a good Hamilton side with the defence of Riley,Bainbridge, Mulligan and Blair all solid. Midfield in Howley and Anderson with Rushford all working hard. A second goal was hit home by Howley. Lennox in goal had a couple of good stops and Hamilton also hit the post from a header. A clearance on the half hour from the Hamilton defence saw Howley pick the ball up and run with the wind behind him strike a great shot over the defence and goalkeeper for the 3rd goal, game over. The 2nd half began with Templeton pushing again but no further goals to show and with Heggie and McNally and Alan Temp pressuring Hamilton it was only a matter of time before Templeton scored again. Heggie was put through with a great ball and rounded 3 players before slotting home for the fourth, what a great goal. Subs of Carmichael and Kerr rounded off a day where the Ref stopped the play for every slight foul and later should have sent of the Hamilton defender for a terrible tackle but he had lost all respect by this time and showed a yellow card!! A good victory and a crucial time for Templeton with next weeks Scottish cup tie at home to Hurlford Thistle. Man of the match was Ali Rushford who worked very hard.
TEMPLETON ALBERT 1 V HURLFORD THISTLE 5 ( SCOTTISH CUP ) 1ST DECEMBER 2007
Templeton came up against a very good Hurlford Thistle team who are doing well in the Ayrshire league. Right from the start Temps struggled as a team, being watched by a variety of teams , Refs and old club members made the experience even worse. Within minutes a slack ball from defence found Lennox come from his line in goal for the Hurford forward to easily slot the ball home. Picking themselves up Temps pushed forward again but the central defence of the Thistle team easily cleared any high balls. Templeton were better when attacking the wings and crossing but this was only occasional. Again on the 15 minute mark a defensive mistake again allowed the Thistle forward standing along at the back to finish the game as a contest, defence posted missing again. Before half time a couple of headers and shots from the midfield by Rushford and Heggie and Anderson had the away defence under pressure but no goals. The 2nd half brought the first subs with Taylor coming on for McNally and with Temps now pushing forward this opened up the home defence. A great shot by Rushford had the goalkeeper make a great save, Temps had some good pressure at this point but from a corner a long ball caught the whole team up field and the Hurlford forward finished the game to make it 3-0. Templeton were a shambles and instead of pulling together they continued to play out of position. The away defence continued to clear their lines with ease as the Temps crosses were predictable. The game was well sealed when the away team scored with ease the 4th and 5th goals. Taylor scored late on for Temps with a very well taken goal. If Lennox in goal had not saved well it could have ended up 10!! A bad defeat for a simply terrible team performance, if this Hurlford team can play again like this they will go easily into the final stages. Templeton return to league business next week and Man of the Match was Martin Lennox for pulling himself up from a bad start to be outstanding.
STATHCLYDE UNIV 2 V TEMPLETON ALBERT 8 ( LEAGUE ) 8TH DECEMBER 2007
Templeton went back to league action against Strathclyde University after last week defeat in the Scottish Cup. Almost from the kick off university almost scored but saved by Lennox in goal. Within minutes Templeton had started the scoring with a great goal from Heggie. This was followed up on a wet day with Taylor scoring and then a 3rd was added by Templeton off of a defender. Uni had some pressure and to be honest were not a bad team, but the conditions got worse and Templeton handled them better. A 4th goal was added from the penalty spot from Anderson to make the half time score 4-1. In the 2nd half Templeton's stepped up another gear and Heggie scored another 2 goals with Templeton scoring and McNally scoring 2 after rounding the defence and goalkeeper. A important win for Templeton to keep the pressure on in the league race. Man of he match was Mike Mulligan with a steady game on a very changeable day for weather. Next week Templeton play Bishopton in the West Cup away.
BISHOPTON 0 V TEMPLETON ALBERT 6 ( WEST CUP ) 15TH DECEMBER 2007
Templeton came up against Bishopton in the West cup, With injuries again affecting Jim Anderson team selection he shuffled his pack to win this game. Right from the start Heggie was causing problems but it was Bishopton that had the early pressure. Within 10 minutes Heggie latched onto a great ball from Anderson and slotted it home. With Lennox in goal and Mulligan and Rushford with Blair, Kerr and Murray taking control in defence Templeton settled into their game. After 20 minutes a great cross ball from the wing found Anderson hit a first time volley to extend the lead, a cracking goal. Alan Templeton and Stuart McNally were playing well with Heggie and Taylor using the ball effectively. Heggie was right through on goal when he was sliced from the back by the Bishopton defence, a penalty, Anderson converted to make it 3-0.The first half was completed by another goal from McNally. The 2nd half was peppered with shots from the home forwards but either bad finishing or some great saves by Lennox kept the scoresheet clean. Another clever run by McNally found him split the defence and score a great solo effort to make it 5-0. Subs used were young McCabe for Templeton and Carmichael for Heggie. From a corner the ball was cleared to Murray who hit the ball from the edge of the box to ping passed a rut of players for the 6th goal. Man of the match was Derek Anderson.
TEMPLETON ALBERT 3 V ERSKINE 2 ( LEAGUE ) 9TH FEBRUARY 2008
Templeton were at home in the league against Erskine. This was their first game since December and in the early stages it showed with slack passing and timing being out. In the early stages Erskine could have taken the lead as they pressed Templeton. As the game progressed there was a good chance from a header from Campbell in front of goal with the ball going over the bar. Heggie and Forrester were causing problems up front and Rushford, Howley and McNally all working well in the middle. As the half time approached it looked a draw until Forrester popped up to put Templeton into the lead. Within a minute Heggie was also through right from the kick off to score a great 2nd goal for Templeton. Half time 2-0. In the 2nd half Templeton were looking easy and when Anderson crossed a clever ball McNally was there to direct it into the net. Game over, no..... Erskine fought back and with Templeton changing the team with subs the game was back on. Templeton, McCabe and Charters went into a revived Erskine team who pushed Templeton and scored through the No7 who weaved passed the defence to score Erskines first goal.. Following this a penalty miss from Anderson would have eased Templeton into the last quarter but Erskine scored another to pressure the home team in the last minutes. With the clock ticking a great through ball found the Erskine forward with only Lennox in goals to beat but a freat save from Lennox kept the game in Templetons favour. A ugly win for Templeton but crucial in the league against a Erskine team who never gave up. Man of the Match was Alan Rushford with Templeton at home next week in the West cup against Castlemilk from the Safl.
16/2/08 TEMPLETON ALBERT 3 V CASTLEMILK 1 (SAFL ) AET ( WEST CUP )
Templeton went into this match against another SAFL team riding high in their league and with injuries to the central defence and suspensions. Manager Anderson shuffled his pack by bringing in Charters and moving Mulligan to left back. Right from the start a bright Castlemilk team put Temps under pressure and within minutes Lennox in goal had a great save. Templeton through Howley, Rushford and Bainbridge with Reilly, and Heggie in support applied pressure as Temps started to control the game. Few shots in a first half that was dominated by defences both goalkeepers had little to do. As the game looked to be heading for a draw at half time a loose ball from the midfield allowed a cross for Castlemilk to the back post for the away team to take the lead. The celebrations from the Castlemilk team to the sidelines was to egg Templetons to a very hard working 2nd half which they will look back on. With a half time talk from the coach Sannaghan and the management Temps redoubled their efforts as they took the field. Straight from kick off Temps put Castlemilk under pressure which lasted right to the whistle. Shots from Forrester, Heggie,McNally,Templeton, and Anderson were all saved by a very good Castlemilk goalkeeper, and as the tie looked to be lost substitute Kerr with his first touch from a corner headed past the defence, 1-1 Templeton deserved this break with the pressure they had applied the 2nd half. It could have been over for Milk as Templeton had a chance at the end but Alan Templeton was crowded out as the whistle blew for full time.
As the extra time started Templeton applied the same pressure, Castlemilk were tired and Temps fitness showed, they were getting more chances as the game progressed. Man of the match Rushford was superb closely followed by Howley, Mulligan, Heggie and a real team effort. Templeton found himself with the ball in the net from a crowded area from another cross, 2-1. As the extra time went on another vital save from Lennox kept the Templeton advantage and on this occassion a ball to the wing and a quick cross found Heggie at the back post to finish the tie, 3-1. Man of the match was Ally Rushford pushed closely by Howley,Heggie, Mulligan, as the manager said a great team effort. Castlemilk looked to much a long ball team with a good defence playing for the draw but as soon a Temps realised to go for the wings the game was over. Templetons play either Bannockburn or Colville in the next round.
23/2/08 TEMPLETON ALBERT 2 V PARTICK WEST 4 ( LEAGUE )
Templeton looked forward to the visit of Partick as both teams were winning well in the league. From the start Temps put Partick under pressure and a long ball from Howley found Anderson who sent in a long cross to find Forrester to hit home, 1-0 to Temps within 10 minutes. With shots from Anderson, Heggie, Forrester and Howley all being saved or hitting the post in total 5 times in the first half the post came to Particks aid. Templeton were to rue missing the chances as Partick kept working away but with little to show for in the first half. As the 2nd half got underway Templetons applied more pressure and were refused a penalty by the Ref. With the ball being cleared the Partick forward was fouled by Mulligan...... who was sent off by the Ref for a bookable offence at best! These events lost Templeton their structure and bookings were handed out by the Ref for simple fouls and self discipline. Partick kept on with their game and levelled the score and followed by a 2nd. Their 3rd goal came from a wind assist which Lennox was unfortunate to miss. Templeton has another player sent off and Partick took advantage with a 4th. Temps scored at the death, a good hard game against a good Partick side, a bad Ref and undisciplined display by Templeton. Next week Templeton play Colville away in the West cup.
15TH MARCH 2008 COLVILLE PARK 0 V TEMPLETON ALBERT 1 ( WEST CUP 6TH ROUND )
Templeton came into this game with injury and suspensions where the management team had to shuffle his pool. Both Taylor and Blair had to slot in to the defence, alongside Kevin and McCabe. Within minutes of the kick off a bad mistake allowed Heggie through but he hit the post. This was followed by some great shots by Templeton and Rushford and Anderson. At times the Colville defence seemed solid with the away goalie outstanding. Midfield worked hard with Howley and Rushford breaking down any attack from Colville. Half time came as Templeton looked to finish of this very good Central Scottish side. Lennox in goals had little to do over the first half. As the 2nd half progressed it was more of the same from Templeton's with the Colville goalie blocking all efforts. Heggie was put through and as he nudged the ball goalwards the goalie reached out a leg, another save. Templeton could have been 4 or 5 goals up at this point and just as it looked no to be our day a smart pass from midfield to Templeton who went inside his defender and slotted the ball home. A well deserved lead on pressure. Colville had to come out which opened the game which started to flow back and forth. Templeton were now under pressure but as a unit the defence and midfield were solid. Other chances were again saved by the Colville goalie and with Lennox in goal having a great game Templeton deservedly won through to the next round of the West cup. The team were solid and tough with no failings, a great team performance.
5TH APRIL 2008 TEMPLETON ALBERT 6 v EAST KILBRIDE UNITED 1 ( LEAGUE CUP )
Templeton started with the wind behind them which did not suit their play. Long high balls were plenty in the first half. With little football being played on the ground a scrappy half was only lightened by a great first goal by Espener who turned and hit the ball to put Templeton into the lead. EK came back and with some bad defending and looking for offside EK levelled the score within 10 minutes, 1-1 at half time. The 2nd half was better as Templeton started to play football, Blair, Rushford and Franny all took hold in the middle and Espener , Anderson and Templeton with Heggie caused problems. The 2nd half was peppered with goals from Heggie after a great move and Anderson from the penalty spot. Subs of McCabe Charters and McNally settled the team to more goals from Espener again for his 2nd and Phil McCabe who scored 2 great solo goals one of them at the final whistle. A well deserved win for Templeton who now play Strathclyde Uni on Wednesday at home in the league as the weather looks to be getting better. Man of the Match was Gary Espener for hard work and scoring but also being part of the goals laid on for others, well done Gary.
TEMPLETON ALBERT 2 v STRATHCLYDE UNIVERSITY 1 ( LEAGUE )
BISHOPTON 3 v TEMPLETON ALBERT 4 ( LEAGUE )
TEMPLETON ALBERT 6 v ORCHARD PARK MOUNT A 1 ( LEAGUE )
TEMPLETON ALBERT 3 v EAST KILBRIDE UNITED 3 ( LEAGUE )
TEMPLETON ALBERT 3 v KNOCKENTIBER 2 ( WEST CUP QUARTERS ) AET
Templeton were at home to Knockentiber from Ayrshire in this first quarter final tie which Templeton as a club has never reached. With changes made by the management team it reflected their concern at the defensive quality Templeton have shown lately. As the game got under way Templeton through Taylor and Heggie pressured the away defence with good support from the wider areas from Anderson and Howley. Midfield of Rushford, Murray and Coyle pressured any football the away team tried. Even after all the pressure the away team goalie still had little to do as both teams defence were strong. This was turning into a very even match with Knockentiber easy on the ball. As Templeton attacked again a lose ball found the away team on the attack and the Templeton defence posted missing as the ball was crossed a easy first goal to put Templeton behind, another silly mistake from Templeton. Pulling themselves together Blair and McCabe and Ji all pushed the midfield forward and with the forwards going through on goal a foul was awarded centre area just outside the penalty box. Taylor took the free kick and placed it over the wall and into the top corner, a better free kick you would be pushed to see, a great goal. In the 2nd half it was more of the same and from a corner the Knockentiber centre half rose alone to head them into the lead. Templeton came back again and it looked as if Knocketiber were happy to sit back and take the pressure instead of going for a winner goal, Templeton had 2 strange decisions by the ref where in the 1st disallowed goal the goalie dropped the ball and Taylor put it in the net, the Ref awarded a free kick? In the 2nd a ball was passed back to the goalie and with Taylor coming out he turned and scored but this was given offside? Only the Ref can explain these actions. As Temps applied more pressure another free kick was awarded which was taken quickly and flighted over the defence for Taylor again to score another cracking goal, 2-2. With extra time looming Knockentiber pushed forward and started to show a bit more pressure but with a couple of great saves at the end from Lennox the final whistle blew.
In extra time Templeton were more under pressure as Knockentiber started to move the ball about but Templeton dug deep and fought back in a tiring last 30 minutes, as the game looked to be heading for penalties and Lennox again having some wonder saves in the Temps goal a neat ball to Taylor on the right passed to Alan Templeton who flew down the wing and with a tired Knockentiber team chasing he crossed for Heggie to slip the ball passed the goalie with a minute to go, Templeton had won. This was a hard game against a very good team who are regulars in the last rounds of the national cups but the spirit of this Templeton team dug deep to show they deserve their praise in reaching the semi final where they will play Eastfield from the Central League. Well done Templeton Albert. Man of the match Martin Lennox.

Templeton again had changes due to players being missing and came up against a very stuffy Bishopton team who obviously have a week team and a Saturday team which belies their lowly league position. Templeton had a penalty awarded within 20 minutes which was missed and within minutes Bishopton went upfield and scored to take the lead.Templeton attacked again and from a great cross Smithy scored to level . Templeton defence was lose with their pasing and were causing themselves problems and soon the Bishopton team had went into the lead. Changes were made by the management with Heggie and Murray coming on but the difference was made when the Ref sent of a Bishopton player for talking back, this upset the away team and put them under pressure. With Bishopton defending a strike from Templetons left back from 40 yards smashed the next, a great equaliser to make the score 2-2. As the game came to the last 10 minutes a great ball down the right found Coyle and Murray and picked up by Heggie who passed a great ball to Smithy in front of goal for Templetons to take the lead. In the last 10 minutes both teams attacked but with no more scoring. My personal opinion was the match changed on the soft booking and sending off but there was another 7 players who felt the same for silly fouls to be booked by the same Ref. Man of the match Kein Coyle.

Templeton played in their last game of this league before they join the SAFL next season. On a windy night they showed the football they are capable of and won well against a spirited Bishopton team. Goals from Andy Forrester, who was named man of the match, and Heggie who scored 2, Templeton's top goal scorer this season followed by Howley, Franny and a superb headed goal by Reilly. Templeton went out in style with Bishopton trying until the end, but a comfortable win for Templeton on the night.John Howley was voted man of the match although on a night when most played well in the team.
Templeton enjoyed the GGPL who have a very good setup with excellent teams. We wish them the best for the future as we prepare to join the Scottish Amateur Football League.
