Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale) was the
residence of the Doge, or leader, who held absolute power over Venice, until
Napoleon abolished the office of Doge in 1797. The palace's present design is
largely credited as being the work of Giovanni and Bartolomeo Buon, built
between 1309-1424.The world's largest painting, Paradise, is housed in the Grand
Council chamber.
