Templeton Albert was established in 1919 as the Glasgow Welfare League was founded.

The main idea was to build a league for Glasgow  teams to compete at football following the 1914-1918 war.

Templeton Carpets, who were the main employer in the East end of Glasgow, sponsored football teams from all the Templeton carpet  factories, they were :

Templeton

United .......  Victoria ....... Albert.......... Star .......  United ....... Victoria ....... Albert .......Star.......

Templeton Carpets were a worldwide supplier and manufacturer of carpets and rugs, and the Templeton Street complex was designed from the outside to reflect the Doges Palace in Venice,  this was the conditions placed by Glasgow City council on the planning of the building on Glasgow Green so as not to ruin the rural look of the area.

Templeton's  started off in the Glasgow Welfare League in 1919 and played in the Glasgow Welfare League until 1987.Templeton's were asked to join the newly formed Dumbarton & District Welfare League.

In season 1935 / 1936 and in 1936 / 1937 Templeton's won the Scottish Welfare Templeton Cup , their own sponsored trophy,  in 1951 / 1952 Templeton won the Daily Record Cup followed in season 1952 / 1953 by winning the Templeton Cup again.

More recently Templeton's were involved in both Scottish Welfare Cup finals in seasons 1990 / 1991 and then in 1993 / 1994, being runners up on both occasions.

In season 1995 / 1996 Templeton's reached the Scottish Welfare Cup final, which was played at Tinto Park in Glasgow. This time they won 5-2 against Torry Vics from Aberdeen.

In season 1996 / 1997 Templeton's applied for membership with the Glasgow Amateur League and have continued their membership since.

In season 2002 / 2003 Templeton Albert were the first team to win the League Cup from the 3rd division, after competing against other teams from all 3 divisions. The history continues......

In season 2003 / 2004 Templeton Albert were crowned league winners  in the Greater Glasgow 3rd Division football league and are promoted  for the first time in their history to the 2nd Division. THE TEMPLETONIAN MAGAZINE

The Templetonian magazine was produced regularly by the Glasgow-based James Templeton and Company. These magazines are a valuable source of information on the history of carpet making in Scotland and an insight into the social history of Scotland in the 20th century. From the pages of the magazine we can discover that the company acquired its first 'digital computer' in 1965! The autumn edition of the magazine in 1965 mentions computer 'jargon' such as 'data processing' and 'programming' for the first time. This technological innovation is balanced by reports that 'it is becoming less easy to sell abroad with more competition from other exporting countries and from local production in the importing country'. Another edition of the magazine in the 1960s hopes that workers who 'go to the Costa Brava or Majorca will feel that their journey has been worthwhile' while those who 'stay at home for their holidays will have a better summer than last year
